“Children, line up. It’s time to go to the first activity.” the teacher
ordered. The children did so, and quickly, with a wolfish grin on their faces;
normally, it would have taken them half an hour to line up, but today was
different. Because today they got to harass grade 8 supervisors, who had
virtually no power over the kids, and were greatly outnumbered.
Looking at her schedule, the teacher pointed forwards and uttered a
single word, “Marbles”. The kids took one look at their teachers finger, then
set off towards the music room, satanic laughter and references to Satan could
be heard muttered amongst the crowd, but hushed by the sound of the marching
footsteps.
The first couple of kids sat down quietly, to distract the older
supervisors, it was an evil trick meant to confuse and disorient their prey.
So far, it worked. While the instructors were seeing to the ‘good’ children,
the second group closed in on the game setup.
Joe was the explainer, and he was telling the kids the object of the
game, while Bob was watching, waiting until he could demonstrate. Things were
going surprisingly well, Joe thought, for a Grade 6 class. Heck, things were
going better now, than when Kindergarten class that had come in earlier. Yes,
this would be a fast period, and then he could get on to lunch, an hour-long
break. Little did he know how much he would need that time.
“See, you shoot the marbles through the holes in the pieces of wood we
have over here.” Joe turned around to point to the pieces... but instead made
a horrible discovery. There they were, the rest of the class, behind him, and
grinning an evil grin from tooth to ear; One of them even brandished Joe’s
sacred sharp ruler, the one he treasured and loved.
“What the...” Joe blurted out, completely dumbfounded.
“Hmm?” Bob turned to see what the problem was, immediately fell to his
knees, and started praying for his life.
Apparently, Joe was made of sterner stuff, he tried to reason with the
demons.
“Um.. could you, uh... put that down... um.. eh-heh just what are you
planning to do? Umm... Back off! Back off!” Joe started slowly inching
backward, “A little help here, Bob?” But Bob was paralyzed with fear, and
therefore unable to do much of anything but crouch, stutter, cry and pray.
Turning to the ‘good’ kids for support, he found that they too had
become mindless human savages bent on destruction. The teacher tried to help,
by trying to send some people to the corner, but they just ignored her,
because she was a supply, and not-so-powerful herself.
All of a sudden, some of them leaped forward, hitting Joe down, hard.
He fought back, but the odds were 30-1, and soon they had restrained him, most
of them holding a wrist or ankle down, while the one with the ruler perched on
his chest, placing the ruler by Joe’s throat. It didn’t take long before Bob
was restrained as well.
The other children then preceded to dump the marbles on the floor,
smiling as they did so. One of them, a girl, Joe saw, picked up a marble,
examined it, then threw it accross the room, it hit one of the windows, sending
a shower of shards outside. The shards ripped through the clothes of children
playing outside, cutting them badly. All the standing children smiled an evil
smile, the girl had invented a new game. Moments later marbles were
flying across the room, shattering the windows further, and ruining all the
instruments out of their cases.
When there was nothing left to break, the children dropped the marbles
and looked for something new to play with. Joe could see that they were all
looking at Bob.
“No!” Joe yelled, “Leave him alone!”
That was a big mistake. Now the children were looking at him. They
started to close in, laughing like hyenas at their twitching prey. Joe started
to sweat, and his life flashed before his eyes, he knew this was it, he was
probably going to die. They had formed a circle around him, now. The attack
would come soon, he knew, and he braced himself for it. Leaning forward they
pounced, they were attacking him now, and... the bell rang.
The children looked at the bell, for only a second, then they were off
to their lockers, gone for much needed energy, (lunch). Slowly, Joe got up,
his body ached all over. Surveying the damage, he decided that it would be a
much better idea to clean up later, rather than now. Grabbing his ruler that
the misguided miscreant had left behind, he set off towards his locker with
Bob, ready for a good meal.
Bob, Joe and the other Grade 8 supervisors, are all currently in the witness protection program.
